"Know Thyself" Cupcake Icing This was the first hall program that the Wiley Jackson Staff did for the 2016-1017 school year. The curriculum theme was "Know Thyself" so as a staff we administered color tests. For each of the four personality colors there was a corresponding icing. The residents who participated got to learn a little bit about themselves, and got to meet some of their peers during such an important transitional time. This program was also a great opportunity for me to start meeting some of my residents.
"Color Away Your Stress" was a program that I did in September that was designed to help students relax before midterms began. I provided sharpies, crayons, and colored pencils so that students could use whatever suited them. I also provided cookies. I set up in the mawa lobby and people came in, took a sheet and some colors, sat down at a table, and colored their stress away. The residents seemed to really enjoy this program and I ended up with almost no cookies left!
"What Makes You, You?" November's theme was "Connect" and I wanted to take this opportunity for my residents to get to know a little bit more about what makes their hall mates unique. I asked my residents to anonymously put down some characteristic that makes them special in some way, whether that be a physical trait, a hobby, or some way of expressing themselves. I was delighted by how honest their answers were. We discussed a little bit about why having differences in a community would be important. My residents came to the same conclusion, that inclusion was one of the most important dynamics of this campus.
"What's Up, Succas?" This program went exceptionally well and I had tons of people show up! It was the last program of the year and it was an opportunity for the residents of Wiley Jackson to paint flower pots and plant succulents in them. It got everyone in the summer feeling. We had a really great time and the program ran for over 2 hours! People hung out and compared their beautifully painted pots. We actually ran out of pots within the first 5 minutes and had to run out to Lowes and pick up 15 more. Every pot was painted by the end of the night!
